Community shocked by Murder of a mother in Glenwood, NSW

We at SikhHelpline, are deeply saddened by the murder tragedy involving a man (Jagdish Singh), believed to have allegedly murdered his wife (Harjit Kaur)  at their home in Glenwood, Western Sydney yesterday. They have two young boys. It is believed that the deceased was a victim of long term domestic violence.  This is a very sad time for our community as we come to terms with the events that have occurred in the past 24 hours.

The community have been left with feelings of grief and bitterness as it was only this time last year the community was torn with the double murder tragedy involving Punjabi family living in Gordonvale (North Qld).  Unfortunately, what has become more evident is how such tragic events have highlighted the magnitude of Domestic Violence within our community and a cry for help from victims. On average, nationally, the Sikhhelpline receives 15-20 calls a month from Indian women and men seeking assistance or support for various issues relating to domestic violence, bullying, immigration etc. Regrettably, this amounts to more than 100 cases per year.

The Sikhhelpline Australia SHA would like to reach out to all members of the community for support and guidance through this difficult time and volunteers are here to provide support for anyone dealing with domestic violence and mental health issues.
